Excited and filled with so much joy, Brekfast got a chance to chat with the experimental singer Melissa Marie Salvador. But she is better known as her stage name Mely Marie. The Puerto Rican-Ecuadorian singer was born in New Jersey but raised in Puerto Rico. With his incredible background, the singer grew up with many different cultures.

Mely Marie recently dropped her EP “Mixed Feelings” in late April and it is the perfect album for all the feels. Each track differs from one another, and each song is a completely different vibe. Her voice will make you feel relax and calm. But the beats on some of her track will make you want to get up and dance.  The EP is definitely something worth checking out.

For those who don’t know who Mely Marie is, can you tell me who she is and what type of artist she is?
Hello!! Well, Mely Marie is an outgoing person, fun, but sometimes can be a bit shy. I wouldn’t consider myself as one type of artist because a love experiment new things but when it comes to a specific genre I can say pop artist.

This may be an introduction for some who have never heard of you, what song would you tell them to listen to first?

I would tell them to listen to my first single, it’s called “All Night”.

How and why did you start making music?

I started making music at a young age, I never saw myself doing anything else but performing my music live! I love how that makes me feel.

Was there a specific moment that you can recall where you thought to yourself, “This is what I want to do, this is my calling”? If so, tell me about that experience.

Since I was a little girl I always said a wanted to be a singer. But when I had my very first singing performance I think I was 14 years old and I remember, I had the best feeling being on stage that’s when I said to myself you belong here! It’s just magical!

I see that you recently released you EP Mixed Feeling. Can you tell me a bit about the project? What was your inspiration? What energies and headspace did you have?

Mixed Feelings” is such an amazing emotional rollercoaster. And I say this in a good way this project means so much to me, every bit of me is in this EP. My inspiration behind was myself, my life experiences. I wrote about breakups, love, having fun and memories. That’s why I decided to call the EP “Mixed Feelings” because all my songs are based on my emotions and about how I feel in certain situations. And that’s the energy and the message I wanted to send to my fans through this EP.

What has been your favorite song to write and create off the EP?

I love all of them I don’t think I have a favorite one but If I have to pick is between “All Night” and “Contagious.” Those wore the most fun to create.

What was the most difficult to write and why?

“Dancing with the Devil.” I couldn’t finish writing it. It took me months until I said this is actually a great song to collaborate with someone and I’m glad I didn’t finish it because Josh Cruz killed it!

Who are some of your biggest influences?

I gotta say Selena Quintanilla. It’s super sad that she was taken from us so early. And, Jlo and Rihanna influence a lot on my career.

What and/or who inspires your work? And why?

I feel like any idea, story or feeling that I might be having on mind inspires me. Music lets me express myself. And that’s how I create my work.

What does your work aim to say?
Be yourself! There’s no problem with that. Like my EP is named “Mixed Feelings” be indecisive, be unique, be bold! It’s ok to express how your feeling.

What can fans expect next from you?

My fans can expect new music, more shows, a lot of surprises because my career is only getting started.

Is there anything else you want to include?

I’m so happy with the reaction of “Mixed Feelings” I want to give thanks to everyone that supports me and loved my music. The results are amazing and I’m super excited to keep creating and start releasing new music.
