Wine in one hand and my phone in the other, I sat down for an interview with up and coming music artist/fashion designer, Lauren Laux.
Knowing her as “Kdubb” in college, I was curious as to who Lauren Laux was and what she was all about. She went on to describe to me how she ended up at Middle Tennessee State University, and how she left to pursue her true love. Music.
“When I was 5 years old, the first thing that I said was, ‘I want to be a singer.’ I couldn’t even sing at 5, but I knew I wanted to be a singer. Growing up, I had these little notebooks and I’d write songs in them. Music has always been there with me. In college, I decided that I didn’t want to be a teacher anymore. I decided that I really wanted to take my music serious and start putting things out. When I dropped my first song, “Blind Fall,” on Soundcloud, I didn’t have a name for myself, and I didn’t wanna be ‘Kristen Bell’ or ‘Kdubb’.”
According to the “Hopeless” singer, Lauren was the other name that her mother was going to give her instead of Kristen. “I liked the way Lauren Laux sounded, and I didn’t want it to be ‘Lo’ or ‘Low’ because I thought that that was basic as hell.” [we both laugh]
The “Good Vibes” singer’s music gives you just that, good vibes. She elevates your mind with her mellow voice riding soothing melodies takes you on a journey into her inner thoughts, and into yours as well.
“I just really want people to be moved by my songs. Even though I may have a certain interpretation of a song, she said. I want people to interpret it into their own story. I want it to be relatable.”
After discussing her love for music, we talked a little bit about her fashion line.
“I’ve always liked taking apart clothes and putting them together in a different way.”
She named KeShauna (Auroracristeaux) as someone who inspired her to get into the fashion industry.
“I wanted to do the clothing line because I wanted to start making money without having to work. This is the first idea that I’ve had as far as fashion goes.”
With her recently dropped fashion line, “LauxMein,” you will definit
ely be seeing more of Lauren Laux. She told me that she’s also working on an EP that is to be released soon.
